New Beginnings
I had a wonderful Thanksgiving, taking my kids and visiting my parents in Tennessee. If you're on Facebook then you can check out some new photos from my trip. So, this past Sunday night The Living Room finished up its study/jam session on the Book of Acts. For the past three months we have been studying the first thirteen chapters of the Book of Acts. We learned so much about how the early church came into being by power of the Holy Spirit made known to us through God's Son. I want to thank everyone who came and was apart of the gestation phase of our development as a new community of faith. We've come a long way, baby!
What's next...starting this Sunday night our gatherings will "look and feel" more like worship - we will sing original worship music, continue our biblical jam-session, and have communion. Here's some details:
What's next...starting this Sunday night our gatherings will "look and feel" more like worship - we will sing original worship music, continue our biblical jam-session, and have communion. Here's some details:
- This Sunday is the beginning of Advent, a time of preparation for the arrival of the birth of Jesus the Christ. The theme for our Advent season is Advent Conspiracy: Restoring the Scandal of Christmas by Worshiping Jesus through Compassion, not Consumption. This Sunday, December 2nd, we will jam on Luke 1:46-56 - known as the Magnificat, or Mary's song. We will restore the scandal of Christmas by meditating on Mary's song that includes such lyrics as, "(God) lifted up the lowly; he filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty." Hmmm...
- This Sunday, Dan Ra will be leading us in music. For those who weren't able to be with us two weeks ago, all I can say is that you won't want to miss hearing Dan's unique composition of worship music! Borrowing a concept taken from classical music, his contemplative style is reminiscent of what's being called "Holy Minimalism" - check it out:
